My youngest kiddo had this mashup idea, suggesting the songs sound very similar. Wow, I agree! These tracks go great together! I met their tempo in the middle, at 95 BPM. It look me about three hours to create this mix, as it went through three iterations.

The Coldplay instrumental track is wonderfully mesmerizing and contains some really great arrangements throughout. In the first iteration, I had the two tracks play together, uncut! When Katelyn’s verse kicks in, the beat makes a sweet but slightly aggressive transition upwards and sustains for the duration of her verse. I almost left it that way! However, this kind of transition on a general verse is usually considered a no-no, so I was torn to make adjustments. But ideally, the beat should go back down to a calm, non-distracting level. So I cut it back to the same section as Kane’s opening verse.

For anyone who noticed the birds tweeting throughout the track, I hope you didn’t find that annoying. There were several gaps when the birds were silent, but I made efforts to put their loudest tweets during brief pauses in the lyrics.

The track title was easily going to be “Thank God for the Weekend”, and the kiddos loved it! But then I said, “hey guys, what if I called it thank Him for the weekend“? They totally understood, and they loved it even more. From this day forward, let the Mashup gods forever acknowledge this track as so.

I’m thinking about trying a flip of this mix. It would seem logical that the Coldplay acapella will sound great over Brown’s instrumental! Shall we find out? Please comment below if you’d like to hear it.
