Final Cut
I decided to keep the track at 148 BPM and brought I’ll Fly with You up to match it. I used Magix Acid Studio 11 to tempo match and arrange them. Since this mashup also has some vocals from Fly Away, I used three tracks, as noted further below. It took me roughly 2-3 hours to choreograph the entire mashup to my liking, with lots of subtleties here and there. I even included a 4th track that I tossed in very sparingly.
These two songs are 17 years apart, but their titles seem to go perfectly hand and hand. Fly Away opens with “Come and fly away with me”, where the hook from the D’Agostino track says “I’ll fly with you.”
I wanted to see if I could shorten the track, so I tried another variation where I brought the vocals from I’ll Fly with You sooner. Unfortunately, I wasn’t feelin’ it. The transition just didn’t work out, so I squashed it. Perhaps another time.
The inspiration for this track came from my kiddos! They love TheFatRat, and I’ll admit the Fly Away track is pretty fire! Over the years, I had completely forgotten about the D’Agostino song! It was thankfully reintroduced to me in 2020 after watching the movie Uncut Gems, a flick starring Adam Sandler, released by A24 Films. A remix of I’ll Fly with You starts playing at the end credits.
Fun Fact: Spilling my beans here, I’ll Fly with You is a song that can make me tear 😢 up. The lyrics are so simple, but the love felt in her words are so sincere, so canny and so heartfelt, I sometimes get profoundly overwhelmed.
