I can’t recall how I came across Recordandote by Helena Lynn, but it was a track I really enjoyed! In 2020 I was experimenting with making mashups, and one of my goto acapella tracks was Dangerous by Busta Rhymes! I probably made a dozen remixes, all using unknown tracks that weren’t mainstream. Sadly, all these mixes were lost from my library 🙁 However, this particular mix was my favorite and I even published it on YouTube. I used footage from both Dangerous and a live home performance of Helena Lynn’s track. Sadly, YT blocked it due to copyright concerns (this was the second time) and that destroyed my ambition to pursue making mashups 3 years ago. If I can’t share them the way I wanted, then why put the effort, right?

Thankfully, the video is still on my account. While it has a blocked status, I’m still allowed to download the video file! I snagged it, converted it to a MP3 and here it is! Because it was made for YouTube, that will explain the raw sounding transition at the end of the track about the final 30 seconds. I hope that wasn’t too rough of an experience at the end.

My inspiration of this track came from wanting to hear how Dangerous could sound on as many different instrumentals as possible. Since this track by Helena Lynn was very close in BPM range, I gave it a go! It was a bit challenging, since it didn’t have an instrumental available, I literally had to loop the one small segment of the beat that had no vocals to allow for Busta to spit his rhyme without interruption from the singer. I decided to include her in the track and thus spawned one of my first real Mashups I’ve ever created! As you may have noticed by now, most of the tracks I release are more like remixes, with just one set of vocals vs. another instrumental.

I chose to keep the BPM at 107, and brought Busta’s vocals to match. I chose not to bring Helena’s track to 103 since I had concerns of how the audio could sound choppy or digitized. The tempo is great! This track really makes me want to get up and move!

I remember when I shared my dozen or so remixes of Dangerous to a friend, and the next day they were exhausted of that song, especially the hook!! So with that in mind, I arranged this mix for the hook to only play twice and at the end! I think this does make it more enjoyable. It only plays one time fully after Busta does all three verses, then it plays a second time, but cut up between pauses in Lynn’s vocals.

I’m pretty sure this one took me 10+ hours to put fully together in video format. I’m sorry YouTube won’t let you see it, but hit me up if you’d like me to send you the video file! Maybe I can send you a DropBox link or whatevs.

So what do you think? Should I continue to bring unknown artists to the spotlight with my mixes, or is that an endeavor that won’t draw much attention?

The tools I used to make this track are the following:

  1. Magix Movie Studio 15 (since this originally went straight to YouTube).
  2. After downloading the track from YouTube, I then used Nero Recode to convert it from MP4 (video) to MP3 (audio).
  3. At the time, I had used YTMP3 to rip the YT videos for both the audio and video versions of this mix.

Fun Fact: My favorite part of the mix is where I sprinkled Busta Ryhmes calmer vocals between the pauses in the singers lyrics, throughout the entire track. I hope that was enjoyable and wasn’t too subtle.
